1000-Lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton has lost an impressive amount of weight over the years, but some of her recent behavior has been concerning. Tammy has come a long way and accomplished a great deal since the beloved unscripted show premiered in 2020. The show centers around the incredible weight-loss journeys of 37-year-old Tammy and her 36-year-old sister, Amy Slaton, who once weighed a combined 1000-plus pounds. When the sisters stepped on industrial size scales during the show's premiere episode, Amy weighed over 400 pounds, and Tammy weighed in at a stunning 608 pounds.
Amy had bariatric surgery during 1000-lb Sisters season 1, and lost 125 pounds, but Tammy's journey wasn't as linear. Though Tammy tried to lose weight, she seemed to get bigger every time she stepped on a scale. In fact, by season 3, Tammy weighed in at 720 pounds, and she basically gave up at that point. She stopped dieting, started drinking a lot, and spent time with people who didn't have her best interests at heart. After a health crisis landed her in a week-long coma, Tammy finally treated her food addiction, and had bariatric surgery in 2022.

Tammy Hit An Incredible Weight Loss Milestone
Exactly How Much Weight Did She Lose?
Since the show premiered, it's been interesting to wonder how many pounds Tammy has lost. Up until recently, Tammy had lost 440 pounds, but Tammy was just getting started. A big update on Tammy's weight was recently posted by Instagram influencer Katlyn Foster. In the posted clip, which is titled "Weightloss Warriors," several women walk onscreen while the number of pounds they've lost appears superimposed on the screen beside them. When Tammy steps into the frame, the screen reads that the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star lost an incredible 500 pounds. The post has 3.7K likes so far.
"Shout out to all the women out there building up other women," the post's caption reads. "To all the women out there trying to love themselves. To all the women out there fighting for more. I see you. I hear you. I stand with you."
Tammy Shows Off Weight Loss In Purple
Royal Colors For Queen Tammy
In the olden days, purple dye was extremely expensive, so purple clothing was worn almost exclusively by royalty. Since Tammy's nickname is Queen Tammy, it's fitting that the color is flattering on the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star. Recently, Tammy posted a TikTok of herself talking about the mental health challenges she faced while losing weight. In the clip, she's wearing a purple tie-dyed top. The post has 1.6K likes so far, and Tammy's caption reads, in part, "On my transformation journey, I’ve faced moments where I’ve turned to food to cope when I’m feeling down."
"It’s something many of us struggle with, and it can be tough to break that cycle."
The post appears to be a partnership with a self-help life coaching service called Pop, which seems like it's geared towards people who are trying to lose weight. Tammy is the perfect spokesperson for such a service, because she has always prided herself on being a good role model for her supporters. However, maybe she's lonely sometimes. The good opinions of fans could mean too much to her. As Chris Martin sang in Violet Hill:
So if you love me/
Won't you let me know?
Tammy Sounds Like She's At Peace
She Seems Like An Entirely Different Person
In Tammy's recent post to her Instagram followers, she really illustrated how much Tammy's mental health has improved over the last few years. "I was trying to be so focused on losing weight," reads Tammy's posted screenshot.
" I lost myself, I lost who I was. "
Her caption goes on to explain her point as she encourages her Instagram followers to always stay true to themselves as they pursue their dreams. The 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star writes, "Losing weight, overcoming challenges, and transforming your life are incredible achievements, but in the process, never forget who you are at your core." The post has 6.6K likes.
Though it's incredible that Tammy seems to have found inner peace, it's concerning that she sounds like a completely different person. Losing 500 pounds would change anyone, but the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 no longer sounds like herself, and that feels like it could be a red flag. Hopefully, Tammy's new outlook is based on the fact that she is being sponsored by a mental health service, and is therefore just talking about her journey for that reason.
Tammy Stopped Posting About Her Friends
Possibly In Response To Intense Backlash
During the late spring, Tammy started posting about her friendship with 37-year-old Haley Michelle, a psychic medium who Tammy met while receiving a reading. The two women seemed to hit it off and spent time together, alongside Tammy's sister, Amy, and several other girlfriends. Though Tammy seemed happier than ever, she hadn't posted about Haley in months, and that's too bad. Part of the problem was that, every time Tammy posted about Haley, some 1000-lb Sisters fans would swarm her comment section with accusations that Haley was just a clout chaser who was using Tammy.
This was an entirely unfair accusation, but it could have forced Tammy and Haley to stop posting about each other.
Will Tammy Receive Skin Removal Surgery?
That Would Only Make Things Worse
Though Tammy's incredible weight loss is impressive, I can't help but worry that the 1000-lb Sisters star is pushing herself too hard. Losing so much weight in such a short amount of time has left Tammy with a lot of excess skin that she absolutely hates. Not only would Tammy's skin removal surgery involve multiple procedures, take a long time, and cost a fortune, it would also slow Tammy down, which could lead to depression. With 1000-lb Sisters season 6 on the horizon, I hope Tammy doesn't risk her progress by starting the skin removal surgery process.
