With the provincials done and dusted the All-Ireland series gets under way this afternoon with a host of huge games and Kerry versus Monaghan is the first game on the agenda.
The Kingdom, four-in-a-row Munster champions, are the top seeds in Group Four and, as such, have home advantage for their opening fixture.
Jack O’Connor’s side retained their provincial title with workmanlike victories over Cork and Clare.
Kerry will be looking to time their run to perfection and are strongly-fancied to finish top of the group and progress straight through to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
With Louth and Meath also in the group, Kerry will be aware that today’s game is likely to be their toughest test.
Monaghan were beaten by Cavan in the Ulster SFC preliminary round and have lost veteran midfielder Darren Hughes for the remainder of the season with a cruciate knee injury.
However, Rory Beggan is back and available for selection after his recent try-out with NFL outfit Carolina Panthers.
Vinny Corey’s men recovered after losing last year’s Ulster semi-final against Derry to draw with the Oak Leafers in Celtic Park on their next outing and the Farney have a history of upsetting the odds.
We’ll have all the latest build-up and team news ahead of throw-in at Fitzgerald Stadium at 3pm.
