‘Lokmanya award given to prominent people’: Sharad Pawar congratulates Prime Minister Modi on receiving the award

Sharad Pawar speaking at the Lokmanya Tilak award ceremony said, “The Lokmanya award was previously given to many prominent people. Modi’s name has now been included in the list of these names today. I congratulate Modi for his selection for this award.”

Sharad Pawar, nephew Ajit to share stage with PM Modi in Pune today

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar will on Tuesday share stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lokmanya Tilak National Award function in Pune, the first time the two NCP leaders will come together publicly after Ajit joined the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra against his uncle’s wishes.

Ajit Pawar had last month joined hands with chief minister Eknath Shinde and assumed the post of deputy CM alongside Devendra Fadnavis on July 2. Leaders from the Ajit Pawar faction later met Sharad Pawar on July 17 at the YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai for a closed-door discussion.

CM Shinde and Fadnavis will also attend the event today.

While opposition parties including the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have expressed displeasure over Sharad Pawar attending the event as chief guest, NCP MP Supriya Sule said dialogue is important in democracy despite political differences.

Unease in MVA over Sharad Pawar sharing dais with Modi in Pune

The decision of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to share the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in Pune today has caused unease among allies in the opposition coalition. Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders are of the view that Pawar should avoid attending the Pune function as it may give a wrong message about opposition unity.

Pawar is expected to attend an event in which Modi will be conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak Award today in recognition of his “supreme leadership” and for “awakening the feeling of patriotism among citizens”. The award was constituted in 1983 to honour the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak and is presented every year on August 1, the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak. During his visit, Modi will also inaugurate two sections of Metro rail and lay the foundation stone of various development projects.

ICYMI: PMC prohibits road digging work ahead of PM’s visit to Pune

The Pune municipal administration has instructed its staff and private contractors to not undertake any road digging work in the city, mainly in the areas where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel during his Pune visit. The PM will be in a city on August 1 where he will be conferred the Lokmanya Tilak award.

Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, additional municipal commissioner at PMC Vikas Dhakane held a meeting with the municipal administration and instructed staff to not allow digging of roads mainly around Lohegaon airport, Yerawada, Rajbhavan, and Swargate from where Prime Minister is likely to travel, said an official.

At the same time, contractors have been asked by the civic body to complete already taken road digging work at priority level, the official added.

PM Modi pays homage to Tilak on his 103rd death anniversary, to be conferred with Lokmanya Tilak National Award today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage to Lokmanya Tilak on his 103rd death anniversary.

“I pay homage to Lokmanya Tilak on his Punya Tithi,” read a post on PM Modi's official Twitter handle.

Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Pune on Tuesday during which he will lay the foundation stone for various development projects, stated an official release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Sunday. Further, as per the statement, he will be conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award at an event where he will share the stage with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said that he was humbled to have been picked for this honor.

PM Modi to visit Pune, share dias with Sharad Pawar

Amid a faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) joining hands with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) government in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar are likely to share dais for an event in Pune on August 1. Recently sworn-in deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is also likely to be present for the same function.

In Pune, PM Modi will be conferred with Lokmanya Tilak National Award for 2023 in recognition of his “supreme leadership” and for “awakening the feeling of patriotism among citizens”, organisers of the event Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust said on Monday.

Both the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Pawar senior have accepted the invitation, according to Rohit Tilak, great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak and vice president of Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust.

PM Modi to launch development projects during Pune visit, receive Lokmanya Tilak National Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Tuesday visit Maharashtra’s Pune city where he will lay the foundation stone of various development projects and also receive the Lokmanya Tilak National Award.

After his arrival, Modi will perform ‘darshan and pooja’ at Dagdusheth Mandir. At 11.45 am, he will be conferred the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, constituted by Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983, to honour the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak, as per a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The award is given to people who have worked for the progress and development of the nation and whose contribution can only be looked upon as remarkable and extraordinary, it said.

PM Modi in Pune: Schools, colleges announce closure; online classes

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the city on Tuesday, some schools and colleges located in Peth areas have decided to remain shut while others have announced online classes anticipating traffic, road closures and security measures.

School administrations stated that they have not received clear instructions from district administration on whether to give a holiday. However, students and parents have been asked to not visit the campus. Certain schools have not made a closure announcement leaving parents confused about sending their wards to school on Tuesday.

The prime minister is scheduled to visit Dagdusheth Temple in Budhwar Peth, SP College on Tilak Road and Police Ground in Shivajinagar. With security and traffic restrictions from 6 am to 3 pm, schools and colleges located at Tilak Road, Bajirao Road and Shivaji Road have announced closure as students are likely to experience massive traffic jams, said officials.

5,000 security personnel, drone ban and road closures for PM Modi’s visit to Pune

For Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pune on Tuesday, a security detail of over 5,000 personnel and officers including Maharashtra’s elite Force One anti-terror commandos has been put in place. The Pune city police issued prohibitory orders from July 30 to August 2. A ban on the use of drones for video shooting has been announced by police in addition to the closure of several arterial roads and traffic junctions in the city.

As per the order, any individual, or organisation, found to be violating norms prescribed by the police will have to face action under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A special protection will also be on the ground as part of the security detail and local police entities have been asked to provide an additional layer of security. They will focus on securing venues and routes through which the prime minister’s convoy will pass, said officials.

Besides Metro; PM to inaugurate energy plant, handover PMAY houses

During his visit to Pune on August 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate not just two sections of Metro Rail but also the waste-to-energy plant under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and hand over 1,280 houses constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “The plant has been developed at a cost of ₹300 crore. The plant can convert 700 metric tonnes of dry waste into electricity daily. It will use about 2.5 lakh MT of waste annually to generate power which will be used for other PCMC projects. The plant will help us save ₹20 crore annually.”
