Why are my text messages coming through my email? ›

There are a few reasons a text you send might come from your email address rather than your phone number. Your Messages app settings are set to your email instead of your phone number. You need to restart your iPhone. Your device needs a software update.

Spam refers to messages which are unsolicited and unwanted. Usually, spam texts are not coming from another phone. They mainly originate from a computer and are sent to your phone via an email address or instant messaging account. Because they are sent online, they are cheap and easy for scammers to send.

Filter messages from unknown senders

With iMessage, you can prevent unknown senders from texting you directly. Their messages are filtered to another folder, and you don't get notified about them. Go to Settings > Messages. Scroll down to Message Filtering, then turn on Filter Unknown Senders.

"Sent As Text Message" means your device was delivered as a regular SMS text. To turn off SMS messages, go to "Settings" → "Messages" → toggle off "Send as SMS".
