Ugly Baby Walkthrough

The stage has been set to finally find Ciri with all the main quests in Velen, Novigrad, and Skellige completed. Geralt and Yennefer think Uma is the key to finding her. Uma may even be Ciri in a cursed form. Return to Crow’s Perch in Velen to take Uma from the Bloody Baron’s stables. When you take him, during your travels to Kaer Morhen, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis’ men summon you to his castle. Yennefer and Geralt must update the emperor on their search for Ciri. Interact how you wish with both of them and then agree to meet Yennefer at Kaer Morhen.

Note: You have the opportunity to romance Yennefer during this quest, if you have romanced her before. For more information, check out theSex and Romancepage.

When you arrive at Kaer Morhen, you'll bump into Vesemir. You two will catch up and chat about Yennefer and Uma. Leave the ugliest man alive with Vesemir, while you go talk to Yennefer about her bad mood. Head into the fortress itself and follow the mini map to find Yennefer upstairs. She vents to you about her plans to reverse Uma’s curse not going so well. Help her out by completing three small quests folded into this main quest. You may do them in any order you would like.

Disturbance

This small quest for Yennefer is a cake walk. She hands you a fancy device named a potestaquisitor to track down whatever is interfering with her megascope. Head downstairs to the main hall. Find Vesemir with Uma. Pull out your potestaquisitor by selecting (R1) and head to the left. Just to the left of the cage will be a pile of boxes. They are the source of the disturbance. Vesemir will move them for you. Go back upstairs to talk to Yennefer to complete this small quest.

To Bait a Forktail…

On your way in to Kaer Morhen, Geralt will point out that the Forktail is too close to the castle. Time to help eliminate the threat and grab the spinal fluid that Yennefer needs. Leave Kaer Morhen and follow Eskel’s tracks to a small camp he made. You may either walk there or call Roach when you are outside. At the camp there is evidence of a goat, which probably will be used as a bait. Follow the tracks and listen out for the goat’s cry. It doesn’t take long to stumble across the trap and Eskel will call you over. Catch up with your fellow Witcher and wait for the Forktail to attack.

It doesn’t take long for the beast to show its face. Jump out and attack it with Grapeshot Bombs and Aard. If you have Draconid Oil, you’ll want to apply that later. Take about half of the beast’s health and then chase it up the hill. If you lose sight of it, follow the trail of blood with your Witcher Senses. You will come to a cave that the Forktail calls home. Apply the Draconid Oil if you have any and go inside. Finish the Forktail off in a flash and extract the spinal fluid for Yennefer.

Outside of the cave Eskel will offer you to race back to Kaer Morhen. If you accept, you won’t be immediately sent back to the castle, but you will win extra XP and potions. Your call. When you arrive back, the quest concludes. Only one more to go!

The Final Trial

This quest is probably the longest, but not too difficult to complete. Back in the main hall of Kaer Morhen you can find Lambert trying to brew some drink. Agree to help him fix the phylactery per Yennefer’s request and leave Kaer Morhen together. Follow him through the hole in the wall down a path to the lake. Enjoy the blunt conversation, while taking out any Harpies that appear.
As you arrive at the dock, Lambert’s boat is no longer tied up. Head west along the shore, until a group of Drowners show up. Take out the five Drowners and one Water Hag before hopping in the boat, which is beached. Meditate before sailing off to refill health and potions.

After a short boat ride to the cave, your quest continues. Lambert will hear the cry of a small boy in the distance. You may either investigate it or just head into the cave immediately. If you investigate the cries, you will be ambushed by Foglets. After dispatching them, you will go into the cave. Inside, use Cat Potion to help your eyesight.

Head through the cave and use Lambert to climb up a wall together. Navigate the cave by climbing up and down walls you come across by following the mini map. It doesn’t take long to spot Old Speartip, the Cyclops, sleeping. You can go wake him up and slay him for coin and alchemy ingredients.

Continue through the cave and exit back outside. Trolls will stop you and start throwing rocks. Dash to the cave up the hill and out the other side to confront all three trolls.

The easiest way to get by the trolls is to leave your armor and weapons with them. You won't need it as you'll only walk up the hill to investigate a spot and then back. You can either fight the trolls or talk your way past them without armor. It's up to you. When you are done with the trolls, you will arrive at the Circle of Elements just up the hill. Light the torches for Lambert and wait for the ceremony to be completed. When you two have finished chatting about Lambert’s past, you can follow him to go straight back to Kaer Morhen.

With all three smaller quests done, Ugly Baby can now proceed. In the main hall of Kaer Morhen, go talk with everyone gathered around the table. Vesemir wants to try an alternative method on Uma before attempting the Trial of Grasses. He goes off into the night with Uma. You are left with Yennefer, Lambert, and Eskel. If you are romantically involved with Yennefer, you two may slip off for another encounter.

If not, you all drink the night away. When you return to the table with Lambert and Eskel, drink and chat as you wish. When you are ready to continue, tell them it’s time for bed. The rest of the quest is a cutscene for the Trial of Grasses. Mix the potions for Yennefer, but other than that, sit back and watch.

The following three side quests become available. Complete them if you're ready to move on:

  • Brothers in Arms: Novigrad
  • Brothers in Arms: Velen
  • Brothers in Arms: Skellige
